One thing I’ve noticed when reviewing some extended car warranty contracts, is in the fine print that nearly everything is excluded. For instance, I was researching a new extended auto warranty company today and in doing so I decided to take a look at their most exclusive contract. This contract is supposed to mirror the manufacture’s contract and give you extended piece of mind. The part of the contract that I have found to look at first is the exclusions because if you only look at what is covered the wording makes it sound like more is covered than is really true. Here is a brief excerpt of the “exclusions” part of the contract.

Any repair required due to normal wear and tear. Repairs required due to overheating, regardless of the cause of overheating, or repairs required due to loss of fluids, regardless of the cause of the loss of fluids. These include, but are not limited to, loss of engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, freon, power steering fluid, or axle grease. Repairs to be covered components that are performing the function for which they were designed……..Tires, battery, all glass, lenses, sealed beams, light bulbs, brake rotors and drums, shock absorbers, exhaust components, catalytic converter, charcoal canisters, door handle assemblies, speakers, telephones, televisions, AM/FM radio/cassette/CD players exceeding three hundred dollars ($300) repair or replacement costs, GPS/Navigation systems exceeding three hundred dollars ($300) repair or replacement costs, combination GPS/navigation amp; radio units exceeding three hundred dollars ($300) repair or replacement costs, DVD players, game centers, audio/video equipment, radar detectors, touch screens and/or voice activated accessories, voice recognition systems, safety restraint systems to include airbags and related components, fusable links and fuses, circuit boards, head light assemblies, tail light assemblies, shop supplies, hazardous waste charges, bolts, screws, nuts, washers…..

I would like to know what is covered. In defense of this contract, they do mention that repairs needed as a result of not properly maintaining your vehicle would not be covered. This makes sense to me; if you’re not going to take care of your car regularly then you shouldn’t get repairs covered. On the other hand, this contract also states that normal maintenance is NOT covered. So, what I’m getting from this is manufacture malfunctions are covered, but nothing else?

This extended auto warranty company looks like it offers great extended car warranty plans, but take a closer look! I looked at one of their more exclusive contracts and it seemed as though hardly anything was covered. Other than that, this car warranty company has lots of great information on their site and it’s pretty easy to navigate. They offer three different levels of car warranty plans with sub levels within. If I were looking at purchasing a car warranty with this auto warranty company I would get details about what exactly IS covered.

First off I have to say the website for this extended car warranty company is not very visually pleasing. If it wasn’t for the fact that I was doing some research on different car warranty companies I probably would have left the website within the first five seconds. That being said, once I did get into this car warranty company’s site I was able to find some valuable information. They offered a variety of packages with details about what they covered; they also displayed a general idea of prices for different parts and labor, but not for specific makes and models of vehicles. One thing I wish this car warranty company offered on their site was a general overview of car repairs they did not cover, or what are some exceptions to coverage? I did not see any badge for the Better Business Bureau so I’m not too sure about their history of complaints and customer service.

This extended car warranty company looks good with their A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. However, when cruising their site I could gather absolutely no information about what they offer or about extended car warranties in general. Basically, if you want information about Nation Warranty Corporation you can choose to click on one of three buttons on their website: Experience Live Chat, Get a Free Quote, or Call Us Today. I personally would like the option to cruise through a car warranty site and gather as much information about the company and what they offer before I call; that way I feel armed with information. I would like to know what different types of service plans they offer as well as a general price range. My comfort level with a car warranty company also goes up when I have the opportunity to research the type of repair and car maintenance coverage they offer. I do have to say that the landing page of their website looks very nice and bold.

I strive to keep up with all the different extended car warranty companies in order to keep you updated; I don’t know how I missed this one! In checking out Carchex I have found only one complaint on Ripoff Report, which was refuted by an employee. Truthfully, the complaint was not enough to keep me from continuing my research on this extended car warranty company. The BBB gives Carchex an A rating and every review I have read is positive.

I personally checked out the website of this car warranty company and was very impressed by the amount of information they offered. Unlike other extended car warranty companies they have all their contracts available for your viewing right their online! I read through the most basic service plan available and to be honest it seemed very straight forward; they didn’t try to hide any information about the car service plan by using double talk or super fine print.

They offer several coverage options and allow you to pick your own repair facility. There are some stipulations in making sure that your repairs are covered, like waiting 30 days after purchase date, not covering preexisting repairs, and limiting coverage up to the first 100,000 miles. Pretty basic if you ask me!
