I (and my husband), like Tom were incredibly deceived by AA Auto Protection.

We bought a used Volvo in January of this year and thought we were doing the right thing by buying a $2,000 warranty. Then, this month (August) we found out we had a transmission problem.

When we called them to pay for repairs, they came out and said that because we had tires that were slightly larger than spec-ed (we bought the car this way, and I think they were something like 3% bigger than the should have been - they called THAT a "modification" and refused to pay ANYTHING on claim.

They had never inspected the car when we bought it and we didn't receive a contract until several weeks after we bought the warranty and began paying on it. We've already paid most of the $2,000 policy.

We put in an appeal and they didn't let us know what was going on, so we called to check on the appeal and the guy we talked to (AN EXTREMELY RUDE person, who is apparently head of their claims area, DEAN CLOUD) told us they would let us know via mail if our appeal had been accepted. I told him our car was up on blocks waiting to be fixed and obviously we needed an answer sooner. He said that as far as he was concerned we didn't have a legitimate claim. I askedd him for the name of his boss, and after he said several times that HE had the final say, no matter what, he gave me the name, but no contact information of their CEO (STEVE FRAISER, apparently) He also would not give me ANY information on how to contact their appeal board and eventually hung up on me, even though I was not rude or abusive, just very focused and pointed.

We spoke to several Volvo dealerships who confirmed that a slightly larger tire has NOTHING to do with tranmission failure, especially after such a short time.

I WILL get to the bottom of this, This company is a RACKET and rips off unsuspecting consumers. I welcome working together with anyone who has the same feeling. this is NOT fair and I'm not giving up!

My experience with this company has been positive. I purchased an extended warranty for my son's Mazda. About 9 months later, his car needed a transmission. The policy provided a low mileage used transmission and paid for the installation, and my son has been very satisfied with the repair.

People has to be crazy to buy anything from AAAuto Protection. This company is a fraud. The customer has no reason to make up a story with a pack of lies. The story well detailed as this one is very credible. I did quick searchs on the guys mentioned and found one of them on Pennsylvania Sex Offender Registry. I'm sure there are more felons working for AAAuto.

Tom, your story sounds very similar to my current nightmare. I received the same "story" from Marc as well. Interestingly enough, when one does some research, AAAuto Warranty / AAAuto Protection are connected with the warranty company, Consumer Direct Warranty Services (CDWS). They practice a "good cop / bad cop" type scenario, each claiming the other is at fault and neither offering to return the money I paid (now paid in full).

I've had a number of past auto warranties; all worked very well. These guys are scammers! Run away!

Thank you so much for your very complete statement. You should file suit on your own, don't wait for a class action. I just wanted you to know that I came very close to purchasing an extended warranty from American Auto Protection. My car has 90,000 miles but it's in great shape-- just had the dealer go over it.
You saved me from the scam. I'm rooting for you!

Wow Tom - thank you very much for your informative review. You really explained your situation very well. I hope you can find better luck with some of the other warranty providers on the site here. If you end up buying another auto warranty you are happy with, please let us know about it.
